  5. guides; in Torrington, Conn. A Hungarian-born free-lance
  6. writer, Fodor published his first book, 1936 On the Continent,
  7. a guide to Europe for British travelers, and became a U.S.
  8. citizen during World War II. Fodor invited readers not only to
  9. see the sights but also to immerse themselves in foreign
  10. cultures' different mores. More than 3 million Fodor guides,
  11. covering 93 countries, encompassing 128 titles and in several
  12. languages, are sold worldwide each year.
